Company’s client, a well-established and growing Biotechnology company in Irvine, CA, is seeking a Remote Senior Software Engineer with experience in a Bioinformatics and/or Functional Genomics team. We are working directly with the Hiring Manager on this exclusive search assignment. The company offers a competitive compensation package including base salary, annual bonus and stock/RSU’s. This position is 100% Remote. They will work as part of a multidisciplinary and highly innovative team designing and implementing tools to support our drug discovery research efforts. Work will include Docker-based web services delivering rich data-driven user-interfaces for the interrogation of complex biological and chemical data. The team utilizes Node.JS, Angular, Java, etc.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop tools for various research teams that help medicinal chemists, biologists and computational biologists better capture and leverage in-house and external data in their research
  • Work directly with end-users to design feature enhancements to existing tools
  • Will modernize legacy Java applications to Node.JS and Angular technologies
  • Provides support to the business by responding to user questions, concerns, and issues (for example, technical feasibility, implementation strategies); researching and identifying needed solutions; determining implementation designs
  • Gather and translate requirements into technical solutions
  • Gather requested information (for example, design documents, product requirements, wire frames)
  • Writing and developing code
  • Collaborating with project team and cross functional teams
  • Ensuring solution is sustainable across implementation and use ensuring on-time delivery
  • Troubleshoots business and production issues by gathering information (for example, issue, impact, criticality, possible root cause); Developing solutions; Driving the development of an action plan
  • BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or similar field
  • At least 5+ years of experience in software development
  • Software development and architecture experience with choosing tools, platforms, and coding standards is preferred
  • Proven ability in implementing best practices and design patterns
  • Experience working in a bioinformatics and/or genomics team or environment
  • Experience with modern web-based frameworks such as Node.JS
  • Experience with Angular, React, Vue, etc., are plusses
  • Proficient with Java or C#, .NET programming languages
  • Experience with SQL and/or NoSQL
  • Must have excellent communication and requirement gathering skills
  • An ability to be productive and successful in an intense work environment
  • Able to learn new technologies quickly and jump in anywhere in our stack

Nice-to-haves but not required:

  • Experience deploying services using AWS services and Docker is a plus
  • Linux skills
  • Experience with DevOps CI/CD tools
  • Experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes, etc.)
  • Experience with testing automation tools
